The Loch

Bear Lake Rd Estes Park Larimer County

Roundtrip Length - 5.7 Miles

"After stopping at a junction a couple of miles in from the Glacier Gorge trailhead, you have a choice of heading to Mills Lake or taking the right fork up to The Loch. “Up to” is literal as you begin a couple of very long switchbacks through stunning scenery on this slightly more than moderate but less than strenuous trip to this pristine mountain “loch”. The trail to the right side eventually leads to the more extreme destinations of Andrews Tarn or Sky Pond. Remaining in the vicinity at the far end of The Loch, early summer, snowfields and wildflowers are intersected by mysterious rock carved streambeds that feel to me like something out of a fictitious fantasy; but that’s just me and it’s not because of those big red Alice in Wonderland mushrooms along the way."  Nick Mollé
